About GRCI

The Greater Redstone Clearwater Initiative (GRCI) is a cooperative, inclusive organization of residents dedicated to improving the quality of life for the people who live in and visit the Greater Redstone watershed, by providing examples of effective, responsible stewardship of our natural environment.

The GRCI is composed entirely of community volunteers and representatives from various environmental organizations and governmental agencies.  The GRCI membership includes farmers, accountants, lawyers, environmental engineers, retired and active high school teachers, local sportsmen's clubs, and local businesses, as well as representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, the Fayette County Conservation District, the Western Pennsylvania Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation, and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.

There are no paid staff members of GRCI, however, a full-time volunteer began service with the organization on June 22, 2004. This position was made possible by matching grants from the Office of Surface Mining (OSM) and the Western Pennsylvania Watershed Protection Program and through administration by the AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America program (VISTA).
