December 12, 2000 Fayette initiatives earn grants Fayette County will receive more than $600,000 in grants from the statewide Growing Greener initiative. For 2001, projects in all 67 Pennsylvania counties received funding. The total amount for 2001 grants is $42 million. The Fayette County grant recipients are: - Chestnut Ridge chapter of Trout Unlimited; $222,000 to assess and treat acid mine drainage in Glade Run. - Fairchance Borough; $201,076 to develop and implement storm water practices as part of a storm water management project for the Glass Factory area. - Georges Creek Clearwater Cooperative Initiative; $75,000 to conduct a watershed assessment - Greater Redstone Clearwater Initiative; $66,203 to assess water quality and develop a restoration plan for the Redstone Creek, Little Redstone Creek and Downers Run watersheds. A separate $5,728 grant will be used to raise public awareness about the watershed. - Fayette County Conservation District; $21,091 to conduct assessments and develop restoration and protection programs for the Morgan Run and Jonathan Run watersheds. - Fayette Forward; $14,382 to conduct a demonstration and education project with Forbes State Forest. |
