About GRCI
Vision Statement
The vision of the Greater Redstone Clearwater Initiative is to inform the public, improve, and protect the watersheds by:
  • Reclaiming and controlling areas of the Watershed affected by, but not limited to abandoned mines
  • Promoting wise land use and management of natural resources in the Watershed, especially when dealing with property owners and issues which affect the water quality of the Greater Redstone Creek Watershed
  • Protecting and enhancing open space and natural areas in the Watershed and providing opportunities for the enjoyment of these natural areas
  • Promoting awareness and appreciation of environmental issues through education so that the community can make sound choices for a sustainable, ecologically healthy future.
Our detailed vision includes three separate, but related visions for:
(1) the Greater Redstone watershed
(2) our community and
(3) the Greater Redstone Clearwater Initiative

(1) The Greater Redstone watershed

We envision the Greater Redstone watershed restored to a naturally beautiful area with a high quality of life that is attractive to new residents, new businesses, and visitors while providing a safe, healthful home for all of its residents.  In this vision, the watershed serves to illustrate the continuity and interdependency of all resources and beings, with all parts contributing to the health of the whole.  Our vision for the watershed includes:

  • land and waterways free from pollution affording ample habitat for diverse native wildlife;
  • restoration and protection of a full range of natural geomorphic and hydraulic stream functions supporting complex in-stream and floodplain structure;
  • stable banks with properly managed riparian vegetation along freely flowing streams and creeks that are fishable and swimmable according to the strictest water quality standards; and
  • plentiful natural areas of undeveloped open space that offer opportunities for enjoyment by all watershed residents and visitors.
Based on our aesthetically appealing, readily accessible natural resources, we envision a thriving tourism industry and abundant outdoor recreation opportunities with minimal negative impacts on communities and resources while bringing a steady source of income to the watershed economy through provision of a wide range of unique natural and cultural experiences to residents and visitors.

(2) Our community

We envision the Greater Redstone watershed composed of unique, economically viable communities with rural character where environmentally aware citizens, community leaders, and visitors are proudly connected to and aware of the rich cultural heritage of the area while being actively involved making sound choices and volunteering their time and effort toward a sustainable, ecologically healthy future for our watershed community. This vision will require informed, caring residents and community leaders, as stewards of the watershed, making responsible land use and natural resource management decisions based on an educated appreciation and awareness of our waterways and other natural resources in the watershed as valuable community assets that must be conserved and protected.
